Apple will launch a mini-LED MacBook Air in 2022, according to Ming-Chi Kuo.
In an investor note released Friday, Ming-Chi Kuo said that the company will adopt a 13.3-inch mini LED display for its MacBook Air range, replacing the current 13.3-inch Retina display with LED backlighting.
Introducing a mini LED display would help Apple offer consumers increased contrast ratios, as well as deeper blacks and higher peak brightness. Traditionally, mini LED has been seen as a professional or premium feature, with the company adding it to its iPad Pro in April, but adopting mini LED across the entire Apple range would help the company bring down prices and benefit from more affordable mini LEDs.
Indeed, Apple is expected to introduce mini LED to its redesigned MacBook Pro range later this year, and it could also come to the iPad mini, with rumors from last year suggesting the budget device was due an overhaul. According to Kuo, Sunrex will become Apple’s latest supply chain partner and provide light guides for MacBook Air scissor-switch keyboards, with the firm sourcing other partners for LEDs.
According to Kuo, Apple will release its new mini LED MacBook Air in mid-2022.
