According to reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will release its second-generation AirPods Pro in 2022, with a third-generation standard AirPods model expected later in 2021.

Speaking in an investor note, as first discovered by MacRumors, the insider said that Apple was protecting “lower than expected” demand for AirPods for the rest of 2021, lowering his previous estimation of 85 million units to 70 million units. However, the release of a new version of the popular AirPods Pro model will help Apple ship more than 100 million units in 2022.

A previous report from Bloomberg suggested that Apple’s next-generation AirPods Pro will feature motion sensors that can aid in fitness tracking, and the firm is considering a new design similar to the Beats Studio Buds that would mean the AirPods Pro would not have the now-iconic stem.
