An Apple insider known for their past credible leaks, “Unknownz21,” has shared internal diagrams indicating that the latest Wi-Fi standard, Wi-Fi 6E, will be restricted to the iPhone 15 Pro.
This is likely due to the advanced A17 processor being exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro lineup.
This is in line with previous reports suggesting the introduction of Wi-Fi 6E with the iPhone 15, but the exclusivity to Pro models was not clear.
The leaked diagram refers to different iPhone models by letter-number designations and confirms the restriction of Wi-Fi 6E to the D8x, the iPhone 15 Pro.
Apple has a history of limiting Wi-Fi standards based on internal chipsets, for instance, the new HomePod only supports Wi-Fi 802.11n because of its S7 processor.
Wi-Fi 6E operates on the same 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands as Wi-Fi 6 but also includes the 6GHz band, which provides faster wireless speeds and reduces signal interference.
To access the 6GHz band, devices must be connected to a Wi-Fi 6E router. Wi-Fi 6E has already been introduced in several Apple products with the M2 processor series, including the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini.
It is worth noting that this decision by Apple might not affect users immediately as Wi-Fi 6E routers are still very expensive. The leaker’s credibility, along with the corroboration of MacRumors, makes this information credible and a likely indication of what to expect from the iPhone 15 Pro.
