In response to the growing demand for advanced AI-driven applications, highlighted by the success of technologies like ChatGPT, Apple has reportedly expedited its server infrastructure expansion.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company’s new servers, equipped with M2 Ultra chips, are designed to handle sophisticated AI tasks required for iOS 18 and future iterations.
These tasks include image generation and article summarization, which will be processed via cloud servers due to their demanding nature.
Moreover, Apple is considering integrating more powerful AI features into Siri, which will also operate on these cloud-based servers.
Gurman’s report suggests that while some functions of iOS 18 will remain on-device, others will necessitate cloud connectivity to leverage the full potential of the M2 Ultra chips.
Privacy remains a pivotal concern for Apple, and the team responsible for the server technology asserts that the use of Apple’s proprietary chips will continue to safeguard user privacy effectively.
Looking ahead, while Apple plans to initially use its own servers, there is a possibility of integrating servers from other manufacturers in the future to further enhance its capabilities.
