French reports claim that Apple are considering setting up dedicated Apple Watch stores. The reports say that the company are building special displays to be placed in prestigious retail stores including Galeries Lafayette on Champs-Élysées. It’s though that if the store-within-a-store project goes well, it could be rolled out to other countries. The idea has been compared to the Mac areas found in Best Buy stores.
Currently, the company plans to sell the watches in its existing Apple Stores, which sell all its products. Apple boss Tim Cook recently announced that the Apple Watch would start shipping by April.
The product is the result of three years of work from Jony Ive and his design team. The watch is the first new product line launched by Apple since the death of Steve Jobs. It was first announced at the same time as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014 as well as the new Apple Pay system. The watch is controlled by a “digital crown” and is able to communicate with the iPhone. The watch is to compete with existing smart watches including Motorola’s Moto 360 and the Samsung Gear Fit.
