Apple to support humanitarian efforts during Ukraine conflict

Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO, has expressed his concern about the crisis in Ukraine, confirming that the company will be doing everything it can for its employees in the country, and will support local humanitarian efforts.

In a tweet, Cook sent his thoughts to those who found themselves caught “in harm’s way”, and joined the millions calling for a peaceful resolution to the situation following Russia’s invasion.

Although there are no official Apple retail stores in Ukraine, the tech giant does work with the country’s authorised resellers. An article in the Kyiv Post, however, did say that Apple had registered a limited liability company, called Apple Ukraine, in the capital city in June 2020.

In what represents a complication of the situation as far as the Cupertino firm’s relationship with the two countries is concerned, it was reported earlier this month that Apple had opened a corporate office in Moscow, Russia. This move seemingly made Apple the first ‘Big Tech’ firm to establish a physical presence in the country beyond retail and support, following the Russian government’s demand that certain foreign companies do this in order to avoid restrictions and potential bans.
