Apple Touch ID Coming to MacBook?

New rumors suggest that Apple is about to add its biometric security feature to the next MacBook. The rumors come from the company’s Asian supply chain, with Taiwanese blog Apple Corner reporting the expansion. The report claims that the feature will be included in a new 12-inch version of the MacBook Air, which Apple have been rumored to be developing for some time.

Touch ID was added to the iPhone 5S in 2013 before being included on iPads. Touch ID works with contactless payment service Apple Pay, which means that users would be able to make purchases by using their fingertips.

It’s rumored that Apple Pay will be launched in the UK soon. A job listing for an intern to work on the project was reported last year. The Touch ID enables device owners to unlock their machine, verify their identities and make purchases in physical stores. UK bank NatWest has just enabled customers’ access their banking apps via Touch ID. Fingerprint information is stored on devices rather than Apple servers, making it hard for hackers to take advantage of the feature. The only way that fraudsters can steal fingerprints to fool Touch ID is to access phones and take impressions of them.
