Apple TV coming to LG TVs in the coming months

TV manufacturer LG has confirmed that it will support Apple TV in the coming months.

The company confirmed that it would add support for Apple’s new TV app, where users can buy content and stream from Apple TV+, to its webOS smart TV platform “soon”.

This will mean Apple TV+ subscribers, iTunes users, and Apple customers will be able to access all of their favorite TV shows and movies without needing to buy an Apple TV box.

LG will be bringing the app to its latest OLED and NanoCell televisions released this year, as well as recent models from 2018 and 2019. Older TVs won’t be able to access Apple TV via their smart TV box, but they can buy an Apple TV box or connect their phone via HMDI.

“New for 2020, the Apple TV app allows customers to subscribe and watch Apple TV+ and Apple TV channels as well as access their iTunes video library and buy or rent more than 100,000 films and TV shows,” the company said in a statement this week.

“Customers with 2018 and 2019 LG TV models will also be able to enjoy the Apple TV app this year.”

Apple previously confirmed that it would be bringing its Apple TV app to all smart televisions from LG, Sony, Samsung, and Vizio, so it seems all manufacturers will be rolling out the tech in the coming months as Apple works with suppliers to bring the software to more devices.

In the past, LG has limited AirPlay and HomeKit support to its most recent 2019 models, so it’s great to see the company add support for 2018 to the lineup with this new update.

At present, there’s no date on when Apple TV will be coming to LG TVs, with the company telling journalists the software will arrive “this year”.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled and let you know when there are any further developments on this news.
