Apple TV+ could hit 36 million subscribers by 2026, according to a new report.

The Cupertino company launched its streaming service almost two years ago, and though it has seen its range of original TV shows and movies grow, it’s still a very small fish in a big pond, offering only a handful of original shows compared with Netflix, which offers dozens of titles every single week.

One thing that has been particularly interesting about the streaming service so far is that Apple has remained tight-lipped on viewing figures and subscriber counts. Now, according to Digital TV Research, Apple TV+ finally has some numbers, reaching 36 million subscribers by the end of 2026.

According to the report, as first seen in The Hollywood Reporter, Disney+ will reach 284.2 million subscribers by 2026. Netflix will top 270.7 million subscribers in the same period. Amazon Prime Video will reach 243.4 million.

Further afield, iQiyi will reach 76.8 million subscribers in five years time, whilst HBO Max will come in with 76.3 million subscribers. Apple TV+ is expected to come in sixth place with 35.6 million users by the end of 2026.

The figure corresponds to a recent report that suggested Apple TV+ currently has around 20 million subscribers, meaning that in five years time, the platform will almost double in size. A separate report found that Apple has a 3% market share when compared with rival streaming services.

The news comes at the same time as Apple begins to ramp up content on its platform. From next year, the company will add new content to the platform every week, adding to its current 70 original shows and movies.
