Apple TV+ secures first Oscar nominations for Greyhound and Wolfwalkers

The background is illuminated by red lights, creating a tense atmosphere. "Tom Hanks Greyhound" and the Apple TV+ logo are displayed in the bottom corners.

Apple TV+ has secured its first Oscar nominations for its original programming.

Greyhound, starring Tom Hanks, has been nominated for Best Sound, whilst Wolfwalkers has been given a nod for Best Animated Feature Film, adding to TV+’s growing nominations list.

Greyhound shares its Best Sound nomination with Soul, Mank, News of the World and Sound of Metal, whilst Wolfwalkers is up against Soul, Over the Moon, Onward, and A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon.

Whilst Apple’s first Oscar nominations aren’t in major categories, it’s a great step for a streaming platform that only has a handful of films. Apple has also seen great success with its TV shows, following Golden Globe Award and Critics Choice Award noms and wins.

The next Academy Awards ceremony will be held on April 25.

Speaking of the nods, Zack Van Amburg, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video, said: “Nothing is more exciting than seeing these unique and meaningful films resonating with both critics and audiences globally.

“We are incredibly proud of what we’re building at Apple, and to have these films celebrated in this way — and in such a short space of time — we’re humbled and thankful for the artists and filmmakers who have partnered with us.”
