Apple TV to offer free video content to existing customers

As we exclusively revealed in our last edition, CNBC have confirmed that Apple are launching an enhanced digital video service that will show the company’s own subscription services and shows along with selected original television content from other suppliers.

Anybody who owns an Apple device like an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV box will be able to watch through the TV app.

“Carpool Karaoke: The Series” is already available but Apple are working nearly 20 original shows right now with a broad appeal that can be enjoyed by a family-friendly audience.

The new service will also include subscription channels where customers are able to get content from the likes of HBO and Starz. Similar to Amazon Prime Video channel options, they can access all the content through one app rather than downloading and using individual apps.

Lights, camera, iPhone!

Apple are in this for the long haul having already pledged over $1bn on original content looking to create several “tent pole” franchises that could draw future viewers and customers in.

Peter Stern joined Apple in 2016 to work alongside iTunes head Eddy Cue to establish deals with media companies in an attempt to pull together the proposed streaming service. Stern has previous experience in the cable industry and it is hoped that this will give him the advantage in securring content deals that Apple has previously been unable to attain.

As well as the video service, Apple is also in discussion with various print media organizations about joining Texture, their magazine subscription service purchased in 2018.

The new TV app is scheduled to launch in 2019 which is when they will most likely unveil the full details of their subscription plans.
