Apple TV+ is a streaming service that is dedicated to producing high-quality television and movie content with a global, multilingual aspect. This resulted in the service-producing and streaming content from different countries and in different languages, from the Americas to Asia. In a recent newsletter, Apple has finally confirmed the production of Dr. Brain, a South Korean science-fiction thriller that is also set to air later this year!
As revealed officially, Dr. Brain “follows a brain scientist who is obsessive about figuring out new technologies to access the consciousness and memories of the brain. His life goes sideways when his family falls victim to a mysterious accident, and he uses his skills to access memories from his wife’s brain to piece together the mystery of what actually happened to his family and why.”
Dr. Brain is set to be the first Korean-language production to air on Apple TV+, which is great news and also proof that Apple really aims to expand its roster on a global scale. We know that the movie is currently in production in South Korea and that it is scheduled to be released before the end of the calendar year, although we still don’t have an estimated release window.
The film, based on a popular webtoon series from South Korea, is set to be written and directed by visionary filmmaker Kim Jee-Woon, whose previous projects include A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) and I Saw the Devil (2010). Alongside him, Dr. Brain is going to be executive produced by Samuel Yeunju Ha, Ham Jung Yeub, Daniel Han, Joy Jinsoo Lee, and Min Young Hong. As for the cast, we know that Lee Sun-Kyun is going to star in the movie; Lee is a Screen Actors Guild Award winner as part of the award-winning cast of the award-winning (including the Academy Award for Best Picture) movie Parasite.
We certainly don’t have to wait long for Dr. Brain to air and seeing how Apple keeps developing and enriching its roster with high-quality content, we’re eager to see how the studio’s first Korean production is going to do when it finally comes out.
