Apple Unveils Pencil Pro with Advanced Features for Latest iPads

Following a series of teasers at Apple’s “Let Loose” event, the Apple Pencil Pro was introduced as the newest and most advanced member of Apple’s stylus family. Replacing the second-generation model from 2018, this device sets a new standard for interactive technology.

The Apple Pencil Pro retains all functionalities of its predecessor, including the innovative hover mode, and introduces additional features like squeeze gestures. This new capability allows users to activate menus by simply squeezing the device, facilitating a smoother and more efficient user experience without the need to touch the screen.

Enhancements in the Apple Pencil Pro also include a built-in gyroscope, which adjusts the orientation of digital brushes and tools with a simple twist, adding a layer of intuitive control for artistic tasks. Moreover, the stylus is equipped with haptic feedback, offering tactile interactions that signal different actions, such as tool selection or item placement, enhancing the overall tactile experience.

A notable upgrade is the integration of the Find My feature, ensuring that users can locate their stylus easily, which is especially useful for those prone to misplacing small gadgets.

Compatibility for this advanced tool is specific; it works seamlessly with the iPad Pro or iPad Air running on the latest iPadOS 17.5. However, users of older models, including the first and second generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro and the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, will need to continue using the original 2015 Apple Pencil.

In addition, 2023 saw the introduction of a more budget-friendly option, the Apple Pencil (USB-C), which mirrors the design of the second-generation model but lacks pressure sensitivity and opts for USB-C charging over wireless.

The Apple Pencil Pro is priced at $129 and will be available for pre-order later today, with shipments set to begin next week.
