Apple Unveils iOS 9 for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch

Apple has used the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco to formally reveal the new release of its iOS operating system for mobile devices. iOS 9 will become available in the fall and come with a wealth of new features and enhancements – including multitasking for iPad, detailed transit information for the Maps app, and a News app for mobile news reading.

Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, enthused that “iOS 9 is packed with more intelligence throughout, and delivers big updates to the apps customers use most”. This intelligence includes the proactive pushing of relevant information, and these updates include a redesign of the Notes app, which will be even easier to use for recording ideas.

Especially convenient for iPad users is the introduction of multitasking features. Among these are Slide Over, using which a user can work in a second app without abandoning the first, and Split View, where two apps can be displayed alongside each other to enable them to be worked in at the same time. And useful for all iOS users will be the News app. This app can display articles from a range of publishers and more than a million topics to assist in personalized news reading.
