Apple Unveils watchOS 3 with New Faces, Apps and Functions

Apple has revealed watchOS 3, the next major release of the software platform for Apple Watch. New watch faces, stock apps including Find My Friends and Reminders, and interface enhancements like a new Control Center and apps Dock are all heading to the wearable.

The additional faces include a Minnie Mouse option to go with the Micky Mouse face, plus the all-new faces Activity and Numerals. Navigating with the Apple Watch will soon become easier, too ā€“ thanks to a Control Center that can be swiped up from the bottom of the display, just like on iOS, and a feature called Dock which enables users to speedily switch between apps.

There’s a strong focus on boosting personal safety and health with watchOS 3. Find My Friends and Reminders are being added as stock apps, as is Breathe, which is intended for helping with breathing sessions in order to keep stress at bay. Apple Pay functionality is being extended to apps, too.

The preview release of watchOS 3 is available from today, with the public release arriving as a free update for Apple Watch owners this fall.
