Apple Watch & Dexcom Sensor: Now Supports Real-Time Blood Sugar Monitoring Dexcom G7 users can now track their blood sugar levels directly on their Apple Watch, even without their iPhone.

Dexcom, a leading medical device manufacturer, has announced that users of its Dexcom G7 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System can now monitor their blood sugar in real time on an Apple Watch.

This update eliminates the need for an iPhone to be present.

The Dexcom G7 system uses a dedicated Bluetooth connection to send glucose data and personalized alerts directly to the Apple Watch.

This allows users to engage in activities like running or dining out without needing their iPhone nearby.

“At Dexcom, our users are at the heart of everything we do. Direct to Apple Watch has been one of our most requested features and we’re thrilled to roll it out to Dexcom G7 users in the U.S. and around the world,” said Jake Leach, Dexcom’s executive vice president and COO.

He emphasized the company’s commitment to giving people with diabetes the flexibility to manage their health as they choose.

Previously, the Dexcom G7’s Apple Watch app allowed users to check their glucose levels through a watch face complication, but there was a three-hour delay in synced data.

Users still need an iPhone to set up the G7 CGM with their Apple Watch. Furthermore, the iOS Health app remains necessary to view blood glucose data along with other biometrics tracked by the Apple Watch.

The Direct to Apple Watch feature is now available to Dexcom G7 users in the U.S., U.K., and Ireland, with more markets expected to follow later this month.

Requirements include the Dexcom G7 app version 2.1, an Apple Watch Series 6 or later running watchOS 10 or later, and an iPhone with iOS 17 or later. More details can be found on the Dexcom website.
