Apple could reportedly delay the launch of the new Apple Watch Series 7.
The Cupertino company had been expected to announce the new Apple Watch at its upcoming September event, due to be announced any day with a rumored keynote date of September 14.
However, a new report from Nikkei Asia has suggested that the redesigned hardware means some new production delays ahead of the launch of the new Apple Watch, meaning delays are likely.
Itโs thought that the โcomplicated designsโ of the new Apple Watch are to blame, with small scale production kicking off last week. Itโs thought that the manufacturers faced issues in reaching โsatisfactory production performanceโ because the new design is significantly different from its predecessors.
It may seem unusual for a company as large as Apple to only begin production on its new smartwatch the week before itโs announced, but the truth is that Apple only begins to ramp up production a few weeks before launch to reduce the chances of leaks and unwanted spoilers.
Although Nikkei Asia didnโt specify, these production challenges could mean that the new Apple Watch Series 7 is delayed. Apple typically releases a new Apple Watch alongside new iPhones in September, though last yearโs COVID-19 pandemic meant the Apple Watch launched on its own.
In the meantime, Apple and its manufacturers have halted production to find a solution for the design problems. Itโs thought that new features have meant a greater number of components need to be fitted into the small chassis, and alongside a new โboxierโ design, itโs proven difficult.
