Apple looks set to announce an overhauled MacBook Pro range at this year’s WWDC.
Although the event is traditionally software-focused, the company has been on a mission in recent months to transform its Mac family and transition them away from Intel chips towards custom M1 chips.
The next stage of that transition could take place as soon as next week.
According to Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives, the Cupertino company is gearing up to announce a “few surprises” at this year’s event, including new MacBooks. The analyst has made some correct predictions in the past, so we should take his comments with confidence.
Apple is widely expected to overhaul its MacBook Pro range, removing the Touch Bar, introducing a more flat-edged design, bring back MagSafe, add in a Touch ID escape button, and offer a more advanced version of its current M1 chip. Whether it will be M2 or M1X remains to be seen, but it’s likely the device will be supercharged for the next year.
This news lines up with previous suggestions from Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, who said that the new MacBook Pro would come over the summer. Remember that Apple said it was transitioning its entire Mac range over to custom chips over the next two years and now, a year on from that announcement, new MacBook Pro models could serve as a goalpost.
