Apple will adopt black lens-coating technologies on its 2019 iPhone range, according to a new report.
The company is expected to introduce a new coating to the iPhone that will make camera lenses “inconspicuous” and provide a more streamlined and consistent screen experience – appeasing consumers who complained about the camera notch on the iPhone XS.
The news comes from popular Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who also reported that the company will introduce 12-megapixel front cameras on the successor to the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max in 2019, something that has surprised many Apple fans.
Triple-lens cameras
It’s expected that the camera will be one of the biggest selling points in this year’s iPhone, offering triple-camera and dual-camera systems on the rear, and a brand new 12-megapixel camera on the front of all three devices, offering second-to-none picture quality for selfies.
Presently, all three iPhones feature seven-megapixel front cameras, so the change will likely be a significant upgrade and provide new opportunities in augmented reality and Face ID.
A triple-lens camera has already been teased by OnLeaks, who provided a rendering of a strange-looking bump on the rear of the iPhone, with three cameras and a flash module.
By coating the new lenses in a black finish, the iPhone’s exterior will prove more attractive, though it’s unknown where the company will integrate the cameras into the iPhone or whether they’ll continue to stick out as a separate bump, something many have criticized.
