Apple will release its first 48-megapixel iPhone camera in 2022, according to reports.
In his latest investor note, reliable Apple insider Ming-Chi Kuo has suggested that the company is working on a superpowered camera system for next year’s iPhones to offer a new level of photography on the smartphone.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple has been waiting for lens prices to drop in price following increased competition during the coronavirus pandemic. He argues that the price of components will stabilize in the next year, allowing for a more affordable entry into high-level camera systems. It’s unknown which iPhone will be given the new camera system, but it’s likely that it will be reserved for the high-end iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Apple has slowly increased the quality of its camera systems on the iPhone for a number of years, and last year’s iPhone 12 saw another significant leap forward with the introduction of the LiDAR sensor on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. More changes are expected this year with the iPhone 13, and next year, we’ll see a number of improvements including the new 48-megapixel camera.
