Apple are attempting to centralize medical records on the iPhone by teaming up with startup company Health Gorilla. This will provide a focus on making it easier for those with different healthcare providers to consolidate all of their medical info in one place.
According to sources from CNBC, this collaboration will add diagnostic data such as blood work, thanks to the firm’s integration with hospitals, labs and imaging centers. Once everything is complete, iPhone users should be able to save their own medical info such as allergies and lab results and share theses with health providers when required. Ultimately, this will save time and any potential miscommunication when trying to get this info from different labs and doctors.
A report last week indicated that Apple was building a team and consulting with various parties to develop a records tool for patients and it is expected that this tech will be built on the current CareKit and HealthKit platforms. The partnership between Health Gorilla and Apple is unusual, however, as the startup has less than $5 million in funding.
Since it was not mentioned at the WWDC earlier this month, it is unclear as to when the tool is set to be launched but it is rumored that it might be rolling out in the final version of iOS 11 in the fall.
