Apple wins 2017 Technical & Engineering Emmy Award

Yesterday the recipients of the 69th annual Technology & Engineering Awards were announced by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with Apple winning an award within the category of “Contextual Voice Navigation for Discovering and Interacting with TV Content.”

Apple received this award for the built-in Siri voice integration built into their fourth-generation Apple TV’s which allows users to search for content using voice-based commands. The same category included other winners such as Comcast, Universal Electronics and Nuance Dragon TV.

Siri has been available on Apple TV since 2015 and allows for a range of functions such as TV show/movie/actor/topic search capabilities and features like vocal rewind that allows users to ask things such as “What did she say?” to jump back 15 seconds or temporarily turn on subtitles.

With help from Siri you can also open games and apps, respond to simple commands for information such as “What is the name of that actor?” or “Who directed this movie?” and answer complex questions such as “Find an 80’s movie starring Woody Allen.”

Recipients of the awards will be honored at the Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards taking place on Sunday, in Las Vegas at the National Association of Broadcasters.

Apple plans to release their fifth-generation TV as part of their highly-anticipated event that is likely to take place on the 12th September.
