Apple could release the rest of its 2022 products via press releases, according to a new report.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has suggested that this year’s updates to iPads and Macs will be done online.
Apple is widely expected to announce a new iPad Pro in the coming month, as well as refreshed MacBook Pro models with a new M2 Pro and M2 Max chip and an M2-powered Mac mini. It had been expected that Apple would announce these products during an October event, but Gurman believes this will no longer happen.
Instead, Apple will release the products via press releases, website updates, and briefings with the press rather than the digital event that we’ve become accustomed to.
Previous rumors that we’d see a second fall event may no longer be the case, suggesting this year’s iPad and Mac updates are small and not worthy of a keynote presentation.
In recent years, Apple has favored events over press releases, but it has released a number of new products out of the blue without much fanfare, including the AirPods Max and AirPods Pro. Still, it signals that we’re moving away from the era of multiple Apple hardware events a year in favor of a more selective approach.
