Apple is reportedly working on a new home screen design for iOS 14, according to leaked iOS beta code found and investigated by Chance Miller of 9to5Mac.
The new design will feature a page that lets users see all of their downloaded apps in one list view, similar to how Apple lists apps in the Apple Watch watchOS user interface.
At the moment, it’s only possible to view your ioS apps using your home screen icons, through search, and in the App Store settings menu, but a new page on the home screen will show all of the applications in list view for the first time, making it easier for users to see and manage all of their apps from one convenient spot on their home screen.
The new list view will offer different sorting options, like being able to filter apps to see apps with unread notifications, filtering by most and least-used apps, and helping you make better decisions over which apps you want to keep on your device, and which you could remove.
9to5Mac reports that this new list view will also integrate with Siri, who will suggest apps that you might want to use based on the time of day, location, and learned behavior.
If you’re at the gym, for example, the new list view might recommend opening up the Spotify app so you can listen to your favorite songs; all making it easier for users to find apps on their devices.
The report also suggested that Apple will add official mouse support for iPadOS 14, including a cursor and gesture capabilities similar to those on the Mac.
Apple has reportedly added a new tracked gesture recognition, allowing users to switch between apps; this will be a feature that’s exclusive to the new Smart Keyboard with Trackpad, which will launch alongside the next iPhone.
