Apple working on new remote for Apple TV

Apple TV

Apple is reportedly working on a new Apple TV remote for the next-generation set-top box.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple is currently developing a new remote under a codename ‘B519’ – for reference, the current Siri Remote is named ‘B439’, so it could mean a big leap forward.

Apple launched the Apple TV 4K back in 2017 and with it came a Siri Remote that had a white ring around the Menu button. Now that the company is working on a new remote, with an internal model number significantly ahead of the current version, it’s likely that Apple is planning to introduce more significant changes to the next remote, though we don’t have any specifics right now.

The news follows an announcement from MacRumors that Apple had removed all mention of the Siri Remote from its tvOS 14.5 beta, replacing them with Apple TV Remote. This could mean that the company is planning to remove the Siri Remote name and switch to Apple TV Remote branding, ahead of the launch of a next-generation remote for the television box.

Last year, it was reported by Bloomberg that Apple was working on next-generation Apple TV with a faster chip, as well as an ‘updated’ remote which would incorporate the Find My app.
