Apple Working on “Scalable” 3D Touch for iPhones and iPads

It has long seemed inevitable that the 3D Touch technology in the iPhone 6S will make its way to other iOS devices, including the larger-screen iPads. Now, a fresh report claims that Apple is developing a new, “scalable” version of the technology for integration in future iPhones and iPads.

AppleInsider has quoted “a source familiar with the matter” reporting that the 3D Touch technology in the latest iPhones cannot be scaled by Apple for devices with larger screens, like the 9.7-inch iPad models. Therefore, the source continued, Apple is developing a similar, but “scalable”, technology intended for inclusion in future iPhones and iPads.

However, the source, who reportedly has a history of accurately reporting future Apple plans, has also seemingly revealed that those future iPhones and iPads won’t include either the rumored iPad Air 3 expected early next year or the iPhone 7 which will likely arrive next September. Apparently, the technology won’t be ready in time for either, which suggests that it could instead debut in 2017.
