Apple’s CarPlay to be available in Honda’s 2018 Ridgeline

“CarPlay is a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car”, further embedding your iPhone into your everyday life.  This feature has slowly been available in a range of vehicles, as a standard or as an addition, and Honda is taking full advantage.

CarPlay for Honda

Honda has already introduced the feature to a number of its vehicles including, the Odyssey Minivan and the Civic Type R.  Following the resounding success of Car Play in these vehicles, Honda is now adding the feature to the 2018 Ridgeline pickup truck, with prices for the truck ranging from $29,360 to $43,120.

CarPlay for the Ridgeline truck will be an option, not a standard feature, Honda states:

“The 2018 Ridgeline offers customers an array of standard and available premium features and technologies in a cabin outfitted with high quality, soft-touch materials that are a step above the competition.”

“Available advanced technologies include an 8-inch Display Audio touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, HD Radio, SiriusXM 2.0, up to four USB ports and Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System.”

Safety first

Last year’s Ridgeline truck model was the North American Truck of the Year and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded the truck the top safety rating.  Safety is something Honda continues to regard very highly and the truck’s features all focus heavily on safety.

Apple insists CarPlay puts safety first:

“CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them on your car’s built-in display. You can get directions, make calls, send and receive messages, and listen to music, all in a way that allows you to stay focused on the road.”

The future for CarPlay

CarPlay is also available in both Scania and Volvo semis and is it becoming even easier to install CarPlay as an add on feature even if your vehicle does not offer it as a standard.  It is yet to be determined if CarPlay is going to be successful enough to become a standard feature of a wider range of cars.
