Apple’s Emergency Satellite feature expected to launch soon

Sos via satellite

Apple is expected to launch its Emergency Satellite feature for iPhone 14 models soon.

The iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max all have the Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, and it will officially be “turned on” in an iOS 16 update in the coming weeks. The new tool will allow users to send text messages to emergency services when they don’t have cellular or WiFi connectivity.

The Cupertino company has already confirmed the new tool will launch in November.

Apple released iOS 16.1 in late October and has confirmed that iOS 16.2 will launch in December, so we’ll likely see Emergency SOS via Satellite activated in an iOS 16.1.1 release, which is already in testing. It’s likely that Apple is working on the release before Thanksgiving to allow users to try out the new technology.

When it launches, Emergency Satellite will work in the United States and Canada, and it will be free for the first two years. After that, Apple could charge for the service. The company has confirmed that it will roll out the technology in other markets in the coming months and years, too, and we can’t wait to see where it goes next.
