Apple is unlikely to launch a foldable iPhone before 2024, according to a new report.
The Cupertino company has been heavily rumored to be working on a foldable smartphone for a number of years now, and though some competitors have already released their own, Apple is reportedly keen to refine the technology before it’s made available to the public to ensure it becomes another runaway success.
New insights from display analyst Ross Young suggest that the company has been working on foldable phones and that they’re coming in 2024. Last year, we heard that Samsung was reportedly providing foldable display samples to Apple for testing purposes, and a separate report found Apple had been working with LG Display.
Earlier in the year, Ming-Chi Kuo suggested Apple was working on a foldable launch for a 2023 launch, but the new information from Young suggests that the company’s plans have now been pushed back by a year.
Despite a lukewarm reception for foldable displays thus far, it’s thought that foldable technology will become a must-have in the years ahead. Indeed, the Galaxy Z Fold3 is the latest consumer foldable smartphone and though sales are much lower than the rest of the Samsung Galaxy line-up, they are reportedly improving.
Foldable technology had its reputation damaged early on after Samsung had issues with its first Fold device, but it’s been three years since the launch of the first folding device and the company has ironed out many of the issues.
