Twitter user “RGcloudS” recently leaked that the iPhone 15 lineup may employ stacked battery technology. The leak initially emerged as part of a revelation about Samsung’s Galaxy S24+ and S24 Ultra models, which are also purported to use this battery technology.

Stacked battery is on track, but limitedMost likely only for 24U & 24+
or just 24Umeanwhile,
apple used it on entire iP15 lineup24U & 24+ have "rated" 5000 MaH
But 24U stacked structure is different
to make it cooler, they applied cooling gel. for 65W & stability https://t.co/8khM2oAToc— RGcloudS (@RGcloudS) July 12, 2023
The stacked battery cell manufacturing technique, known as lamination, folds elements and separators into zigzag layers as an alternative to rolling them. This design minimizes wasted space within the packaged cell and allows more active material to be included, enhancing overall capacity. Consequently, stacked batteries offer higher energy density compared to wound batteries. Additionally, heat distribution is more uniform across the cell, thus extending the battery’s lifespan.
Stacked batteries are popular in electric vehicles for their high power output, rapid recharging capabilities, and superior energy densities. They are also employed in medical devices, aerospace and aviation, and renewable energy storage.
The Twitter user also suggested that Apple might be exploring 40W wired charging and 20W MagSafe charging, but it is unclear whether this pertains to the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 lineup. The iPhone 14 Pro Max currently achieves peak wired charging speeds of up to 29W, while MagSafe charges at 15W.
While the rumor has been widely circulated by various websites and news outlets, “RGcloudS” is primarily known for Android leaks, and their track record for Apple leaks remains unknown.
Therefore, these claims should be taken with caution for now.
