Apple’s purchase of Beddit suggests sleep-tracking for Apple Watch

Finnish company Beddit is known for creating sleep-tracking devices like the Beddit 3 Sleep Monitor which is compatible with iOS and Apple Watch. It comes in the form of a strip of sensors that slips under your sheets to track your movements, humidity and temperature while you sleep. By doing this, it can give you an accurate idea of sleep time and quality, heart rate, breathing patterns and more.

Beddit have confirmed this acquisition through the Privacy Policy page on their website which now stats thatĀ “Beddit has been acquired by Apple. Your personal data will be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Apple Privacy Policy” although, as it stands, we don’t have any financial details.

At present, Apple does not have its own sleep-monitoring app which is surprising considering the amount of health and fitness related features that come as standard in the Apple Watch.Ā When the Apple Watch Series 2 came out last year, the company’s focus was on making the device waterproof, adding built-in GPS and improving battery life. Most other devices of this ilk do offer a sleep-tracking feature so Beddit should prove to be a huge benefit for the watch.Ā However, considering the battery life of the watch, even the most dedicated fitness gurus will need to put their device on charge nightly, meaning it’s unlikely that it will be on their wrist while they sleep. How will Apple combat this?
