Appy Christmas! Apple now allows gifting within apps…

A smartphone with a variety of app icons displayed on its screen, including messages, calendar, photos, camera, weather, maps, notes, reminders, clock, videos, health, settings, phone, mail Safari and music. The phone rests on a surface with an Apple logo. Consider gifting this versatile gadget full of useful apps.

Apps seem to have taken over the world. Whether it’s those practical apps, such as online banking or shopping sites, or simply those fun games you can’t help but become addicted to. We’re always left wondering just what the next Candy Crush or Flappy Bird will be. And with millions of people expected to open iPads on Christmas Day this year, it’s no wonder Apple have released an extra special feature on their apps in time for Christmas.

Give the gift of gaming…

Perhaps you’d like to give someone something a little extra for Christmas after they’ve opened their fancy new Apple gadget and got it up and running. Well, now you can with the advent of Apple’s in-app gift purchasing. Previously, users could only make purchases for their own personal app or gift initial apps to other users. In-app purchases on games often entitle the user to further their gameplay, disable annoying ads or trade their real money for virtual money.

Apple have not made the official announcement as of yet, but some eagle-eyed Apple fans have noticed a change in their App Store guidelines. Previously, they explicitly stated that users may not gift in-app purchases. Now, they read  “Apps may enable gifting of items that are eligible for in-app purchase to others. Such gifts may only be refunded to the original purchaser and may not be exchanged.”

According to The Verge, microtransactions are extremely popular at the moment, so it’s no wonder that Apple have made the decision to offer their in-app purchases as gifts. So, if you know someone who is perhaps a little too addicted to Candy Crush or that Kim Kardashian Hollywood game, why not indulge their addiction this Christmas? You could upgrade them to become ad-free or give them virtual money. We’re sure they will be thrilled!
