It looks like public use of Apple Pay could sharply increase during 2016 – as an app for locating Apple Pay merchants, Pay Finders, has reported a 750% rise in users in just two days.
This impressive statistic was announced by the app’s creator, Brian Roemmele, on his Twitter page on Sunday. It seems probable that this rise was brought on by a recent significant expansion in the number of people picking up Apple Pay-ready devices, either for Christmas or due to favorable discounting.
Yesterday, Roemmele himself claimed that “Christmas was good to the iPhone 6 series & Apple Pay adoption.” Furthermore, on Christmas Day, he tweeted: “Today’s indirect activation data suggests the @Target & @BestBuy $100 off #AppleWatch promotion may have double[d the number of Apple Watch] devices in use.”
The Pay Finders app is freely available in the iOS App Store, though only in a North American version converting the United States and Canada. The developer has stated that another version covering the United Kingdom and Europe is coming soon.
