BitMonster Creates Game to Help Fund Battle Against AIDS

>Politicians and activists can sit here and give you fifty reasons why video games are bad for you, but they neglect to present any reasoning why video games might be a good thing. BitMonster is breaking through the negative sterotype with its brand new iOS title, THREAD. This crazy, abstract 3D dodging adventure is entirely the brainchild of BitMonster, but has been funded by both Coca Cola and the charity RED. For anyone unfamiliar, RED was started by singer/philantropist Bono and activist-politician Bobby Shriver.

The premise of THREAD has you “racing” through a 3D abstract environment as you dodge objects, collect power-ups, and aim for the highest score possible. The game looks amazing. It’s a very modern, sleek, artistically-driven blend of beautiful abstract visuals and unique musical scores. It’s actually quite addicting once you get the hang of it, and just like other “traditional” running titles, you’ll be clambering to get as far as possible. Part frustration, but mostly entertainment, THREAD is a really well-put-together release.

But it’s not just the gameplay that makes THREAD so special. This title has a variety of in-application purchases that can power up your abilities to help you get a higher score. These purchases all go towards AIDS research, specifically towards the fight to end mother-to-child AIDS transmission. Funders and BitMonster are hopeful that the money generated for this release can really help to boost the research for this growing project. It is speculated that this “cure” could be completed as early as 2015.

Chalk one up for video games, maybe they aren’t quite as bad as everyone assumes.
