If you’re planning to order a Black or Jet Black iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus, you are in massive company, to say to least. Both new colors, which replace Space Gray in the usual lineup of iPhone finishes, are attracting huge interest online, which suggests that supply of both could quickly become constrained.
At the time of writing, a poll on the MacRumors forums shows 45.7% of respondents favoring Black, which looks reminiscent of the flavor of Space Gray which featured in the iPhone 5S, and 41.6% indicating their preference for the darker and glossier Jet Black.
Similarly, a Twitter poll by Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman shows, as we write, the matte Black in a similar lead at 49% and Jet Black not far behind at 43%. While Silver, Gold and Rose Gold complete the color lineup, they are getting only 8% of interest altogether in Gurman’s poll and 12.8% in the MacRumors poll.
So, what are you getting? Jet black Plus for me.

These figures suggest that, if it’s one of the two new colors that you have your eye on, you should place your preorder as quickly as possible from tomorrow to prevent having to wait potentially weeks for your handset to arrive. And if it’s Silver, Gold or Rose Gold that you’re most interested in – well, your wait could be much shorter, but we’d still warn against complacency.
