BlackBerry has just released a new Android smartphone, the DTEK60 – a larger and better-specced version of the company’s DTEK50 handset that hit the market in the summer.
While the DTEK50’s scratch-resistant display is 5.2-inch, the DTEK60’s Quad HD display spans 5.5-inch. The DTEK60 also integrates a 21-megapixel auto-focus camera in comparison to the DTEK50’s 13-megapixel equivalent, and can support microSD cards of up to 2TB storage.
The DTEK60, which comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, “has device security built in from the start”, BlackBerry declared in a blog post today. To this end, the new device comes with the DTEK by BlackBerry app enabling the user to monitor and address breaches in privacy.
The DTEK60 also features a fingerprint sensor for use in unlocking the device and making payments with Android Pay. This should obviously provide an experience akin to that with the Touch ID sensor and Apple Pay on recent iPhones.
From today, the DTEK60, priced at $499 USD, is available for purchase from ShopBlackBerry.com in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. BlackBerry will announce the handset’s availability for additional countries “in the coming weeks”.
