BlackBerry has today announced what it claims is “the world’s most secure Android smartphone”, the DTEK50. Coming with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, a 5.2-inch display and a 13-megapixel camera, the DTEK50 also promotes itself as a formidable phone even before you consider its security features.
While a lack of regular and speedy software updates has left Android with a relatively poor reputation when it comes to security, BlackBerry has bolstered this new handset with its DTEK by BlackBerry software. This will automatically monitor the operating system and apps and let the user know of potential privacy dangers and how they could act to address them.
Other neat features of the DTEK50 include a smart on-screen keyboard known as the BlackBerry Intelligent Keyboard. This can learn about the user’s typing behavior and then provide word suggestions to assist them in boosting their typing accuracy and speed.
The BlackBerry DTEK50 is now available for preorder in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Spain, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands, with US pricing starting at $299. The DTEK50 is BlackBerry’s second Android-powered smartphone following the PRIV – and here’s hoping that the Canadian company can put the reportedly poor sales of that device behind it.
