It has been revealed that the Cupertino company is now the largest customer of British electronics startup Rockley Photonics, which offers non-invasive optical sensors that monitor blood pressure, blood glucose, and blood alcohol levels.
Right now, these tests are only available via more invasive equipment, but the sensors from the startup beam infrared into the user’s skin and can reveal significantly more information as a result.
As first reported by The Telegraph, Rockley Photonics plans to go public in New York, and as such, disclosed that Apple was its biggest client.
Based on this information, it now seems more than likely that blood pressure monitoring, blog glucose level monitoring, and blood alcohol level monitoring will be coming to a future Apple Watch – though we, of course, don’t know for certain if or when that will be.
Apple will premiere the next Apple Watch Series 7 in September.
We had previously been lead to believe that Apple would introduce blood glucose monitoring in the next Apple Watch, though several sources added that this would be delayed a year.
