Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has suggested Apple will announce a blockbuster line-up of new products this fall, aside from the usual iPhones and Apple Watches we’ve come to expect.
In his most recent report, Gurman and fellow journalist Debby Wu lifted the lid on Apple’s plans for the rest of the year, suggesting the upcoming October Event could will a big deal.
We already knew that Apple was working on four new iPhones for 2020, with 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch screen sizes, and that Apple is staggering the launches to cope with demand.
The two affordable iPhones will be released before the Pro iPhones in October, and the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will follow in November, similar to 2017’s schedule.
Bloomberg has suggested that the new iPhones will sport designs similar to the iPad Pro, with squared edges that are reminiscent of the iPhone 4. A new dark blue color will be introduced, to replace midnight green, and the Pro models will also feature stainless steel edges.
The cheaper models will come with aluminum as standard, like the current iPhones.
Apple will also bring the LiDAR Scanner to its new Pro iPhones, and it hopes to build around 75 million iPhones with 5G this year. Insiders suggest that the company is on track, despite the coronavirus pandemic slowing down production and manufacturing. Apple could even hit 80 million iPhone 12 sales before the end of the year thanks to pent-up demand.
Other products set to launch this year include a new iPad Air with no home button, two new Apple Watch models – including a Series 6 and a new lower-cost model that will replace the Series 3.
StudioPods are also expected to be announced, under the AirPods Studio name.
A smaller, more affordable version of Apple’s smart speaker, HomePod, could also be announced, designed to compete with Google and Amazon’s Mini and Echo Dot models.
Bloomberg also mentioned AirTags, Apple’s Tile-like devices, though it could be that these are delayed until 2020. A new Apple TV with a better processor and remote control could also be coming, though Bloomberg said that this will likely be pushed back until 2021.
