Apple is to ship 71.5 million iPhones in the final quarter of 2014 – though sales are set to drop significantly in the first three months of 2015, say new estimates. The figures are from leading analyst Ming Chi Kuo, who also says that 57 million of the handsets will either be the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. He says that the rest of the devices will be iPhone 5C and 4S models. Kuo also claims that a relatively modest 49.7 million devices will be shipped in Q1 2015.
The analyst also said that iPhone sales will outnumber the Plus devices sales by 2:1, although other commentators have claimed that the ratio will in fact be 3:1. It is thought that increased supplies of the iPhone 6 Plus will lead to the split being tighter. The official results for Q4 2014 will be released at the end of January according to reports, with further estimates due to be released in the coming weeks. Rumors about the iPhone 7 are already starting to circulate despite the fact that the iPhone 6 was only released weeks ago. It’s thought that the next device will allow users to take ‘DSLR quality’ images.
