Captain America getting a fourth solo movie with Anthony Mackie starring!

Captain America 4 | Anthony Mackie to star in new Marvel

Captain America 4 | Anthony Mackie to star in new Marvel

It has long been a running gag that Thor is the only Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hero to get his own solo movie. After the success of RagnarokThor: Love and Thunder was announced as the fourth film in the series, with Natalie Portman returning to her role of Jane Foster. The movie is going to be directed by Taika Waititi and will continue the story of the Asgardian God of Thunder, played by Australian actor Christ Hemsworth.

But earlier this year, reports struck about a new project involving Captain America, albeit not the Steve Rogers version we’ve been used to seeing in the MCU. Namely, after the success of Disney’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it has been reported that the showrunner Malcolm Spellman was hired to write a script for a fourth Captain America film starring none other than Anthony Mackie in the titular role, but as Sam Wilson.

Earlier this year, Anthony Mackie joked about a surprise encounter connected to these news: “I literally found out yesterday in a grocery store. The checkout guy named Dwayne, a cool cat, he’s like, ‘Yo, man. Is this real?!” [holds up a cellphone] “I’m like, ‘I haven’t heard anything.’ That’s what I love about working for Marvel. They call you, they’re like, ‘Come to L.A. We wanna tell you what’s going on.’ So, I’m excited to see what happens, but I haven’t heard anything.”

Falcon Cap Anthony Mackie Is Now The New Captain America

Now, Marvel has officially confirmed that Anthony Mackie has signed on for a movie and that Captain America is going to become the second MCU superhero to get his fourth solo movie. Okay, technically, this is not the same Captain America as before, but since we know that Jane Foster will become Thor in Love and Thunder, it is practically the same situation.

The movie is expected to start filming next summer and until then – we have to wait for more news!
