Cate Blanchett has a long history of glittering big screen performances, and it looks like she might have delivered yet another one for the upcoming period romance Carol. The first trailer has just arrived and lets us look closer at what went down a storm at Cannes earlier this year.
Carol stars Blanchett as the eponymous character, who sees relief from her loveless marriage after getting to know a young female department store clerk. Though the new trailer’s music very much evokes the 1950s period in which the feature is set, more press attention has surrounded the lesbian romance between Carol and Therese, played by starlet Rooney Mara.
The movie has already screened at the New York Film Festival ahead of its release in US theaters on 20 November. Though the Todd Haynes-directed feature has been hugely acclaimed by critics, the new trailer gives away relatively little in its approximately minute-long duration, so it will be interesting to see how new audiences take to the film later this year.
