Apple has unveiled its stunning Marina Bay Sands store in Singapore, which was designed by Foster + Partners and is described as the company’s “most ambitious retail project” to date.
The new retail outlet was built in Singapore’s Marina Bay and sits alongside the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
Unlike any other Apple Store in the world, Apple Marina Bay Sands is surrounded by water and features a breathtaking, futuristic transparent glass sphere.
Shoppers can access the new store from an underground tunnel in the nearby shopping complex, taking them 45-meters under the ground.
“Apple’s most ambitious retail project sits on the waters of Marina Bay,” Apple said.
“Appearing as a sphere floating on the iridescent Marina Bay, the store introduces a new and captivating retail experience at one of the most iconic locations in Singapore.”
One of the biggest selling points of the new retail space is its open-plan area, spanning 30-meters and showcasing a structure made from 114 pieces of glass with 10 narrow, steel vertical mullions.
As a result, customers will enjoy 360-degree views across Marina Bay.
David Summerfield, head of studio at Foster + Partners, said: “Apple Marina Bay Sands is all about the delicate interplay between transparency and shade.
“The structure dissolves the boundary between the inside and outside, creating a minimal platform that floats gently in the water, looking out over the bay and the spectacular Singapore skyline.”
