There were quite a few notable product no-shows at the WWDC Keynote on Monday, one of them a new Apple TV that would be open to apps made by third party developers. BuzzFeed News had predicted this back in March – but, recently, tantalizing evidence has emerged that this new set-top box could be still waiting in the wings.
This evidence has been noticed by a number of readers of the tech news website MacRumors, which has reported that, with new developer tools released this week, Apple now permits users of its developer program to register Unique Device Identifiers, or UDIDs, for a maximum of 100 individual devices in five different categories, including… Apple TV!
Though, as MacRumors points out, UDID registration has been possible for Apple TV for a while, the 100-device limit for the product seems peculiarly high considering that it is not as well-known as the other categorized devices, including the iPhone and iPad, for third party app support. Perhaps that all-new Apple TV could be set for unveiling in the fall? Let’s wait and see…
