Cookie Monster Proves a YouTube Hit in Latest iPhone 6S Ad

Last week, Sesame Street favorite Cookie Monster appeared in a new iPhone 6S ad that was, according to a weekly chart of brands’ most engaging social media posts, a YouTube hit.

This chart, titled Marketer MVPs and compiled by Advertising Age, showed that, among especially highly advertised brands, Apple came out top on YouTube during the week of March 16-22. The Cookie Monster ad, which you can watch below, generated the most official views, thumbs-up and comments among videos from the big brands in contention.

The brands tracked for the chart are the 200 most advertised according to US measured-media spending in 2014, as recorded by Ad Age DataCenter. In the ad, Cookie Monster uses the iPhone 6S’s “Hey Siri” functionality to set a timer for baking cookies – but the world’s most popular habitual biscuit-nibbler is just a little too impatient waiting for that timer to run down…

The ad has another clever nod to Sesame Street with the end caption “The number of the day is 6 and the letter is S.” If you are or were a fan of the show, we doubt you need that joke to be explained…
