Apparently, one does not simply make a movie about Steve Jobs. The film garnered mixed reviews, some praising the film’s simplicity and some condemning it. One review said it was “not a perfect film, but…a good and worthwhile one.”
Jobs is the story of the technology tycoon’s “ascension from college dropout” to the Apple innovator he is known for. It was an ambitious movie to make, especially considering the man died only two years ago. He’s still a figure fresh in the audience’s minds. Blogger Christy Lemire says of the film, “While we see the nuts and bolts of the machinery Jobs creates, we have a harder time understanding what he’s made of…” Her statement applies to the high expectations of those who knew Jobs personally. People who were close to him knew Jobs with all of his complexities, watched him evolve as a man, and saw him build an empire. “Original Apple employees like Daniel Kottke and Bill Fernandez…criticized the movie for its inaccuracies,” so it seems the movie may have only scratched the surface of who he was. In any case, Jobs—which had a $12 million budget—only grossed a little over “$16.1 million in the U.S. and $19.8 million abroad.”
Jobs is now available for purchase or rent via iTunes and Amazon Instant Video. On iTunes, the film is “$19.99 for high definition and $14.99 for standard definition,” and on Amazon Instant Video purchase is $14.99. The movie is available on Blu-ray and DVD. You can decide for yourself whether or not the movie is worth watching.
