Disney has officially launched its new streaming service in the United States.
US consumers can download the Disney+ app on their iPhones, iPads, and Apple TV devices and stream thousands of movies, television shows, and new original content.
The new service costs just $6.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
Disney+ offers perhaps one of the biggest back catalogs of content amongst major streaming providers including Netflix and Amazon Prime, with television shows and movies dating back almost half a century with classics such as Snow White, Bambi, and Miracle on 34th Street.
In fact, the content on Disney+ dates back as far as 1937, right up until today (2019).
Virtually every film produced by The Way Disney Company, as well as Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic, is now available for subscribers to stream until their heart’s content, offering one of the most compelling subscription services in history.
And alongside classic content and iconic IPs, Disney is offering a bunch of new shows, documentaries and movies for Disney+ subscribers, including The Mandalorian, Encore!, The World According to Jeff Goldblum, and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
More are expected to be released in the coming weeks and months, with Disney reportedly spending billions on new original content to keep consumers locked into the platform.
Apple TV+ also launched this month, but in comparison offers only a handful of television series.
It’s expected that Apple will begin to ramp up its entertainment offering in the coming years as it also will invest billions into original content – though whether it can compete with Disney+ remains to be seen, even if the company offers its Apple TV+ service for free.
