Disney’s ‘Cruella’ finally available on Disney+!

Disney’s 101 Dalmatians are among the studio’s most famous works. The charming story of a family trying to rescue their Dalmatian dogs from a wicked heiress obsessed with fur coats, called Cruella de Vil. Cruella de Vil became a pop-culture icon and an often-quoted symbol of greed, vanity, and evil. While she was a villain in the animated movies and their live-action adaptations, where she was brilliantly portrayed by Glenn Close, Cruella de Vil is certainly one of those villains that deserves their own movie and Disney finally gave us the chance to see where this character comes from and how she turned into the evil villainess we all know and love to hate.

The project was announced as early as 2013, but it wasn’t until 2016, when Emma Stone signed on to play the titular villainess, that it actually started moving forward. It wasn’t until 2019, though, that filming actually began and the movie was initially scheduled for a December 2020 theatrical release. The COVID-19 pandemic, of course, changed these plans and the film was rescheduled for a global release on May 28, 2020, both in theaters and on Disney+. The official premiere was held ten days earlier, on May 18, in the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California.

The movie is an origin story compared somewhat to DC’s Joker, although it’s much less dark and disturbing. It follows a young Cruella on her path to becoming the villainess that would endanger the adorable Dalmatians in the future.

If you prefer to watch movies from the comfort of your own home, Cruella is, luckily for you, available on your Disney+ application from May 28. We don’t know how long Disney intends to keep Cruella on the platform, but seeing how long Mulan stayed on there, there’ll be plenty of time to see it. Emma Stone’s performance has been lauded by the critics, as well as the direction and the costumes, so we are certain that you’ll have lots of fun while watching Disney’s newest live-action adaptation, which promises to be different than all the ones before it.
