The video you just saw was the first official teaser trailer for the upcoming Black Adam movie starring Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero. The long trailer was released on October 16, 2021, as part of the big DC FanDome event, which gave us an exclusive look into DC’s and Warner’s future projects concerning the adaptations of DC Comics’ stories and characters. Alongside The Batman and The Flash, this trailer was the biggest release of the night, and it was, as you can see, a very different kind of trailer, with Dwayne Johnson personally leading us through the production in roughly four minutes.
Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay written by Adam Sztykiel and Rory Hanes & Sohrab Noshirvani, the movie will, alongside Johnson, star Aldis Hodge (Underground, The Invisible Man) as Hawkman, Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I Love Before, Charlie’s Angels) as Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell (Trinkets, Euphoria) as Cyclone, Sarah Shahi (The L Word, Sex/Life) as Adrianna Tomaz, and Pierce Brosnan (GoldenEye, Mamma Mia!) as Doctor Fate. Uli Latukefu (Young Rock), Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard, Aladdin) Mohammed Amer (Ramy), James Cusati-Moyer (Prodigal Son), Bodhi Sabongui (Legends of Tomorrow) are also part of the film’s cast, but we still don’t know their respective roles.
The cast and crew have big expectations of the movie, with Johnson being especially hyped, mainly because the role seems to the role of a lifetime for the popular actor. He has just recently reaffirmed his enthusiasm via social media: “Black Adam has been with me for over ten years now. And that gives you an idea of how passionate I am with this project, how passionate our Seven Bucks is about this project. Warner Brothers, New Line Cinema, DC, they have been so incredibly supportive over the years. This has been over 10 years [in the making]. In 2008, we started talking about this, so it has required patience by all of us as partners, and I am a much different man and an actor than I was 10 years ago.”
With the whole world waiting, Black Adam is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
