EA Executive Rob Murray walked onstage and calmed a cheering crowd before proceeding to fill their gazes with some of the most impressive mobile visuals we have seen to date. Upon first glance, this game looks amazing (think Infinity Blade). And it definitely takes full advantage of the iPhone’s extra 0.5 inches of space by looking incredibly impressive in the device’s landscape orientation.
The sheer visual firepower is enough to get anyone excited about playing it, but Murray promised some new key features to spice up the gameplay. For one, they’re adding dynamic reflections and real working rear view mirrors. This will allow you to see cars behind you in real time (whenever you’re in first person view) and will give you a better grip of your surroundings. The other unique feature comes in the form of Game Center integration, with something EA calls, “time shifted head-to-head.” This mode works very similar to “ghosting” which is present in a lot of other racing games; however, Murray stated that these rival cars will be “real” and on the track. This allows you to bump, tap, and swerve your way past a physical object rather than a ghostly outline.
Murray went into more detail on stage, saying;
“Apple technology continues to evolve the mobile games experience, and we believe games like Real Racing 3 best highlight what consumers have to look forward to with these advancements. The game’s dynamic reflections, sharp track shadows and other beautifully detailed assets will take full advantage of iPhone 5’s new visual capabilities and greater performance to deliver a mobile gaming experience that rivals many console games.”
Unfortunately there was no info regarding any of the vehicles or tracks that will be featured in the game. We are also still in the dark about any other new features or mechanics. So stay tuned to Inside Games and we will get you more details as soon as they are available.
